I am backing up a folder that contains Quicken data files. I have files with long filenames of QDATA-~1.QDF, etc. I get errors like this:
2013-03-28 16:19:59 : Copying file \\?\UNC\samson\dfs\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\QDATA-~1.QDF <to> \\?\UNC\libby\Removable Backup\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\QDATA-~1.QDF (7.90MB) [Error renaming temp file \\?\UNC\libby\Removable Backup\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\~vv1.tmp. Unable to rename \\?\UNC\libby\Removable Backup\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\~vv1.tmp into \\?\UNC\libby\Removable Backup\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\QDATA-~1.QDF. Cannot create a file when that file already exists.] [ERROR]. |

What name do you see for the file \\?\UNC\samson\dfs\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\QDATA-~1.QDF if you go to \\?\UNC\samson\dfs\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\ with Windows Explorer? What file system is used on the volume where \\?\UNC\samson\dfs\data\MyDocuments\BACKUP\ is and what version of Windows?

The 3 problem files appear as QDATA-~1.QDF, QDATA-~2.QDF, and QDATA-~3.QDF, both in Explorer and in a CMD window. In the CMD window, none of the short filenames collide with them. Samson is an openSUSE 12.2 Samba host, internal drives. Libby is an XP host, external USB drive. The job only succeeds in creating QDATA-~2.QDF on Libby. Also, there are no shortnames on the target that collide with the 3 filenames. I also replicate the source to Ziggy, which is a Vista host, external USB drive. I see different results there. There are collisions:
08/31/2011 03:49 PM 8,288,848 QDATA-~1.QDF QDATA-~1 - ViceVersa Copy.QDF
09/08/2011 03:08 PM 8,290,304 XXXXXXXX.XXX QDATA-~2.QDF
09/08/2011 03:08 PM 8,290,304 QDATA-~3.QDF QDATA-~3 - ViceVersa Copy.QDF
(X's added by me because Preview formatting made this look like the shortname) |

I'll try to reproduce this problem, in the meantime are you able to rename the 3 files into a longer version without ~ ? thanks _________________ --

From my ftp logs, it does not look like you have tried to retrieve the file. Is there some problem? |

Just in case there's still any confusion about the URL...
Remove all underscores from the following to have the true URL:
_ftp_:_/_/kenhagin.homeserver.com/vvtest.zip |

Hi, I was trying to download the zip file, but I am unable too, it refuses the connection. I have tried with 3 browsers and also a client FTP software. _________________ --

OK, let's try a different approach...
Open _http_://[deleted].homeserver.com.
Login as user [deleted], with password [deleted].
You should be able to browse to your share and download the file. |

It worked this time, thank you very much, I did perform the test already, and it showed the error too. I have submitted this issue (probably a name conflict when you have multiple files with ~) to be fixed for next release. thank you very much for the great detailed analysis you did! _________________ --
