|
|
We currently use ViceVersa to backup user data to a second server (actually two servers, using each other as the target for different data). Currently we backup at night, after school has finished, using Size and Timestamp and comparing source and target. The profiles are set to run at Above Normal to ensure that they run within an acceptable timescale.
We've not upgraded VVEngine to Server Premium and I'm re-thinking our approach. It would be nice to run the backup during the day too, but this wouldn't be possible using our current method. So, I was thinking about using a tracking database on the Source only, with perhaps a full scan of Source and Target at the weekend. But, I also notice that the the VVEngine Server Premium is also able to monitor file changes for real-time backup.
Any advice on the best way forward? As an example, an important set of data that I'd like to keep a regular backup of is 400GB with 388,000 files. Users only connect to the Source (which is locked in ViceVersa), no changes are made to the Target, except by ViceVersa.
Hope that makes sense. Thanks. Jim _________________ UK High School Network Technician |

Hi, I would setup a "real-time" schedule with VVEngine Server Premium. Set it to track changes and to run every hour or so. Then you can have a full rescan over night or during week-ends. thanks _________________ --

I use 'Volume Shadow Copy' in my profiles, but I notice in your documentation - 'ViceVersa Pro and VVEngine - Real-Time Backup/Replication', that you suggest using the 'Try to copy files that are in use by other applications' and 'Skip files in use' together. I know these are not required if using Volume Shadow Copy, so is it best not to use Volume Shadow Copy for the profiles that I want to use in VVEngine for real-time monitoring of source files? _________________ UK High School Network Technician |

If you want I think you could use Volume Shadow Copy too with real-time: the settings in the document are suggested if you are not using the Volume Shadow Copy. thanks _________________ --
