Hi,
We are trying to use ViceVersa 2 to synchronize a large directory structure (some 8000 files in 200+ folders) between a laptop and a usb harddrive, and there have been several bits of weirdness. Most recently, we synchronized successfully, then moved 1 folder up one level in the directory structure, and recompared, and VV2 wanted to update a whole variety files elsewhere in the directory structure. We are using size and timestamp comparison w/ VV2 on XP Pro.
Any ideas how to apprach this? We are getting nervous its going to overwrite/delete something it shouldn't.

Hi - when you move a folder in source, VV will firstly delete the old folder from the target and then copy the moved folder. You can check exactly what ViceVersa will do using the comparison window and the preview window. thanks _________________ --

nope,
as i stated, it was elsewhere in the directory structure
Before:
Folder A
subfolder a
subfolder b
subfolder c
subsubfolder i
subsubfolder ii
we moved subsubfolder i up one level, and files in subfolder are an example of what was being synchronized.
After:
Folder A
subfolder a ==> files here were being synchronized also
subfolder b
subfolder c
subsubfolder ii
subfolder i => these were synchronized as expected
i'm beginning to suspect the drive was dropped briefly and the redetected during the initial synchronization. is it possible that this could create oddities in the synchronization database for the timestamps?

Yes, I think it is possible that during the time the USB drive was not detected, VV was synchronizing subfolder A and it skipped some of the files.... these files were then correctly synchronized during the next run. _________________ --
