Hi - I'm running a sync task on Windows 7 64bit against a NTFS local disk and a FAT32 USB memory stick. I find I gradually get more and more conflicted files despite neither file being altered (or often even accessed) on either media. Files usually end up with an hour difference in the Timestamp (although not always) and usually with an around 2048 byte difference. Content is primarily .ppt or .doc and visual checking of the files shows no noticible change in the content.
Can you advise a) what may be causing the issue and b) how to get around it?
Thanks. Brilliant product BTW. |

- Time differences can be explained (Daylight Saving Time -aka DST- ; Fat <versus> Ntfs etc....) and you have a couple of options to fix those issues in the profile preferences..
- However, byte difference shouldnt occur if file are untouched..
Are you sure those files are untouched ?
A good comparison program could help you find out (not just looking "visually")
Exemples are Ultra compare, Compare suite, beyond compare .... those programs compare file byte per byte or word by word... |

Thanks for your quick response.
I've already got the setting checked to ignore DST issues and yet the files are still flagged as conflicts. The problem doesn't only occur over a time change either which is what I thought that option was for.
The files are certainly not touched by any manual process. In fact the folders that get more and more conflicts in tend to be within a folder structure that is hardly even read from let alone written to.
The USB stick is accessed on two PC's - one Windows XP at work and one Windows 7 64bit at home. The files that ARE accessed tend to be edited directly on the usb drive when on the XP machine and on the local machine (or sometimes USB) when on Windows 7. The sync is only ever run on the Windows 7 PC and I'm very careful to run the sync both when the drive is first attached and before removing the drive.
My first thought was that AV might be writing some additional data to the files but it seems totally random. I'm running MSSE at home and I believe the AV solution at work is McAfee.
I've currently checked the option to override conflicts but this is obviously not ideal and I'd love to know what on earth could be causing both the timestamp and filesize to change. Starting to worry there might be a virus involved!! |

Hi, what version / build of ViceVersa PRO are you using?
You mentioned that the file size is changing (usually with an around 2048 byte difference), this would mean the file is changed and if the timestamp is not changed, but the size is, it would result in a conflict.
