I am considering ViceVersa for a project that I'm working on. I have not yet bought the software. I want to know whether VV will support my project environment.
My environment has 3 computers, 2 servers and 1 workstation. The workstation writes data to the active server. The other server is a backup, which is only used if the primary fails. The backup server runs VV so that the data is replicated between the two servers.
The workstation keeps track of system error messages, writing a message to the fault log file on the server every time a fault occurs. The fault log file is named with a datestamp. If the primary server fails, then the workstation starts writing faults to the backup server's fault log. When the primary server comes back online, each server has a file with the same name and different contents.
Is it possible for VV to automatically merge these files? The servers are supposed to run with no user interaction, so I can't manually perform file merges. I don't want to overwrite either file; I want to merge the contents of both files so that both servers have the full fault log. Does VV have any options related to automatic merges? Can I use the Compare and Merge program to help with this?
Thanks. |

Hi, ViceVersa can't do that. However if you sync in real-time between the two servers, when server A goes down, server B should have an exact copy of the log from server A. So the log entries are appended now to server B logs. When server A comes back online, the log is copied from B to A and no entries should be lost.
See real-time functionality:

The only issue would be if Server A goes offline too fast for real-time copying to kick in. _________________ --
