what exactly does the tracking database do? whats the difference between using it and not using it? tx.

The tracking database is used to keep track of file timestamps and it's used for the synchronization method (to track which files/folders are new, deleted or changed since last sync) and for the no-rescan option: http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item107.htm

ok got it. So its caching the file/folder information and so not having to scan for that information. And you then set a period for when it should do a full scan to make sure everything is still in sync.

Yes, correct, ViceVersa caches file and folder info in the tracking db.
For the "no rescan" option that info is used to speed-up the comparison. That's useful if you know the target has not changed (or not changed much) since last time ViceVersa run. Then you can use the Rescan Condition to periodically force a rescan (or it can be forced manually from ViceVersa or VVEngine).
