I noticed that my machine was running very slowly today and, when I investigated, I found that one of the profiles set up to run overnight with VV Scheduler was still running, more than 10 hours after its start time. I've had this happen once or twice before.

Checking the log, I found that, after 'Start Deleting' and one error message 'Can not delete ... Acess is denied', nothing else semmed to have happened until I killed it off.

In case it's relevant, the folder concerned is my C:Users\ profile folder (Win 7). Previous runs had completed normally.

I'd be grateful for any advice you can offer.

Mike

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. It's v2.5, Build 2504.

This has happened each day since I reported it, so I ran it interactively to try to get an idea of what was going on.

In the source folder, there were about 13,000 files and in the target more than 120,000. It's difficult to see how this could have come about, as it's a mirror and was running normally until recent days.

The 107,000 items to be deleted totalled around 300MB but it was clear when the deletion process started that this was happening _very_ slowly, with each file taking between 1-3 seconds, even though many of them were less than 1K, so its easy to see how the whole process would go on for hours.

I guess the answer is to delete the target data in Windows and then run the profile again to create a valid mirror, but it would be interesting to know why this happens.

Regards,

Mike

I did as I said I would and deleted the target completely and the profile then ran normally but, a couple of days ago, I found my machine almost at a standstill again due to that profile continuing to run for hours.

It would be nice to have some idea what might be causing it so that I can try to avoid it.

Regards,

Mike

Hello,

maybe it's an issue with the recycle bin. Try disabling the option "Use Recycle Bin when deleting" , it's in the main ViceVersa menu -> View -> Preferences.

thanks

Hello,

Just to let you know, I disabled 'Use Recycle Bin' and the job has run normally since.

Yesterday, also, I emptied the recycle bin and it took hours (literally). I didn't check what was in it before I emptied it - I got fed up with waiting for it to open - but I suspect the delays opening and closing were due to the large numbers of files VV put in there in the past.

So it does appear that the problem was due to files going to the bin. I imagine that, most of the time, this doesn't cause any problems but, with a very dynamic folder like the \Users\'profile', large numbers of files must be deleted and accumulate in the bin.

Hope this helps.

Mike
