Hi This post will be rather long but I hope someone will read it in it;s entirety. I am looking for a solution to the following problem:
My company has purchased several companies that are part of a larger corporation. They are obviously part of a Windows AD forest different than ours. We have created all the users in our Forest. They currently have all there storage on an HP Storage Works X1800's using Windows 2008r2 storage server.
We have purchased an identical Storage works server and connected them Via a private LAN between the NAS servers.
We originally bought HP Storage Works mirroring software ( OEM'd from Double Take), But several problems exist that Double Take cannot apparently overcome.
We cannot unfortunately move all users and applications at one time, so we must find a way to Snyc files from one environment to the other over a period of several months.
Requirements:
* Must NOT bring over File Rights, ACL, Owner, etc. . (Replicate from one Forest to a different Forest without rights)
* Be fully assessable (R/W) by clients on both target and source.
* Open file replication.
* Be able to setup and control separate replication jobs on different schedules.
* Replicate over separate isolated LAN connection.
* Control replication triggers, by file modification dates, checksum, etc..
* Specific information on Ports and protocols required. (Firewall)
* Prevent deletion of files on the source causing the target files to be deleted.
* While real time replication would be great, scheduled replication could work.
* one way replication Source to Target.
Is ViceVera Capable of meeting these requirements?
This is a really urgent issue as we had counted on Double Take being able to do this, but as I said it appears they cannot.
Thank you in advance for your help. |

One thing I forgot to mention is that users have two PCs on two parallel but separate LANs running XP Pro SP3 workstations.
During the migration they will continue to access some application on their current (former corporation's LAN) then use their new PC's (OUR LAN) to access application as they are moved from one company environment to the other. The only actual connection point is the private LAN between the two NAS devices.
Thanks |

Thank you for your response. Regarding the ? marks to some of my questions let me try to clarify.
Quote:
* Replicate over separate isolated LAN connection.
What I mean here is we have a separate vlan on dedicated NICs in each NAS that we wish replication traffic to occur across. Isolated from the vlan users are on.
?
Quote:
* Prevent deletion of files on the source causing the target files to be deleted.
I want to prevent files on the target directories from being deleted when the same files are deleted off the source.
?
One other thing is there a phone number available for contacting your company? I don't see anything listed on the web.
Thank you |

Does software need to be installed on both systems? The source? The target?
Thanks |

Hello,

ViceVersa and VVEngine will use Windows network shares to sync, they will rely on the Windows network.

I want to prevent files on the target directories from being deleted when the same files are deleted off the source.

Please see sync methods available on this page:

It works either way. Do you need to detect changes on source or target ? _________________ --

ViceVersa works using the Windows network shares, if that can go through the firewall, ViceVersa will do too. _________________ --
