|
|
Hi there,
(I am new here, so hello to everyone )
After a few weeks of backing up our Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with ViceVersa Pro 2 (Build 2015), I noticed that the parameter for counting archived versions of a file does not work. I have the parameter set to 2:
“Keep max. ‘2’ copies per file (enter ‘0’ for unlimited copies)”
But the versions of files keep adding up and this is wasting very valuable space on our server. The same fsf with the same version of VV was working fine on our Windows 7 Pro computer (albeit, the physical location for archived files is now on a different NAS). Can anyone confirm if this is a known bug? If so, is there any remedy?
Thanks!

Hi, welcome!
Check the profile log, is ViceVersa having trouble deleting from the archive folder? This should work fine on Windows 2008 R2 too. thanks _________________ --

An unrelated (to this topic) server died on us the minute after I sent the OP...
I need to fix this first, urgently...
Later on, I will verify if VV has trouble deleting from the archive folder and report back. Thanks for the tip!

Hi,
I finally had time to come back to this issue...
As pointed out, the problem is an error when attempting to delete files in the archive folder:
2011-07-29 02:27:27 : Deleting file unc\xxxxxx.pst [Can not delete "unc\xxxxxx.pst_(2011-07-06_01-20-41_ove_t).pst". The system call level is not correct.] [ERROR].
Any way I can resolve this?
[Edit]
I just found out that this issue was brought up before:
http://www.tgrmn.com/web/forum/viewtopict2204&highlight=system+call+level+correct+deleting.htm
http://www.tgrmn.com/web/forum/viewtopict2370.htm
This was in 2008... Basically, it seems that the build I use (2015), might have had a bug. Is there any newer version on VVPRO2 in which this issue has been resolved?
Thanks again.

Well...
I paid for version 2 which should be compatible with Windows Server 2008. I do not mind trying VVPro version 2.5, but will it be free of charge for me?

Well,
I do not think that I should have to spend money to upgrade to get a new version of a product that, in the first place, should have worked with Windows Server 2008.
Concerning this very problem, on Oct 16, 2008, the Site Admin of the present forum wrote:
“Hi, we should be able to release a fix for this quite soon. Thank you for your patience.”

So... was a fix ever produced?
Thanking you in advance.
