|
|
I would like to check the syntax and steps needed to run the gadget to monitor vv engine on another computer on my home LAN.
(because this message board does not allow posting of URLs I am verbally breaking this up-I know it looks unusual but I get a "sorry external links to other websites are not allowed" error when I post my examples)
First I type the four letters which the abbreviation for Hyper Text Transport Protocol
Then I type a colon
then I type two back slashes
then I type the private IP address of the machine running the engine
that I type a colon
then the port number which is 8001
8001 is opened for inbound and outbound traffic on both machines through Windows firewall?
I noticed that the ViceVersa Pro documentation talks about opening the ports to "HTTP" whereas actually the firewall talks about TCP or UDP?
Since it is not working I figured I would ask if there's something I missed?
Thank you in advance. Any tips appreciated!

I have related problem. I have VVEngine running on two computers on our home network, and I have allowed access to VVEngine from 192.168.10.* on both computers. When I'm logged on to computer1 and type http colon slash slash computer2 colon 8001 in the browser, I get the VVEngine pages, so it appears I'm not having firewall issues.
However, when I configure the VVEngine gadget on computer1 with http colon slash slash computer2 colon 8001, I only get the "VVEngine not found or access is denied." message. (Same happens using computer2 to access VVEngine on computer1.)
If I configure the gadget on computer1 to point directly to the IP address of computer2 (e.g. http colon slash slash 192.168.10.100 colon 8001), the gadget displays status correctly. This isn't ideal, though, as it doesn't allow me to use DHCP on the home network.
What else do I need to do in order to get a gadget on the first computer to display status of the second computer via its hostname?
Thanks,
mike |

Hi ,
if you enter
http : // 192.168.10.*:8001/gadget.xml
in a browser, cross-computers, does it show the gadget file?
thanks _________________ --

Yes from a browser on the other computer, I can see the gadget file either by typing numeric ip:port/gadget.xml or hostname:port/gadget.xml). But putting the hostname into the gadget settings still fails to retrieve results.
