One of my VV backups makes copies of the Outlook Personal Folder and Archive files. I've run this for a long time under WinXP, but recently installed Win7 and upgraded to VV 2.5.

When I try to run the profile now, I get an error on the two files concerned, C:\Users\...\Appdata\Local\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst and archive.pst.

The error is 'Can not open \\?\GLOBALROOT\......\outlook.pst. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.'

How can that be? Surely the whole point of the shadow copy is that it's a static copy that programs like VV can access freely?

Sorry, I meant to say that, if I close Outlook (and kill the process to be on the safe side), it works fine.

I couldn't work out how to post the log file to the forum, so I've e-mailed it separately to support@tgrmn.com, subject this post.

As you can imagine, the Outlook backup is one of the most important profiles I run and, since I schedule the profiles normally, I don't want to have to remember to close down Outlook every night to avoid the errors.

Thanks.

Hello,

Did you manage to retrieve the log file from the support mailbox, or is there any other way you would like me to send it?

Hello,

this is a strange issue, and could be due to VSS malfunctioning. So far I tried looking for more info on the web, but could not find anything useful....

thanks

I created a new profile to do exactly the same thing, and it seems to work fine.

I'd used the old profile for a long time in WinXP without problems and am pretty sure the only thing I changed was the source path which is, of course, different in Win7. (I assume profiles from earlier versions are compatible with v2.5 - all my other ones work OK.)

If you'd like to see the profiles or the log of the new run, I'd be happy to send them to you.

I've had some further problems with the Outlook profile.

I scheduled the new profile which had run successfully interactively and it produced errors (I've sent the log). Oddly, it appeared that two files had been created in the target folder, with the same names and sizes as those in the source, but dated 02/02/1982 02:22. Outlook didn't recognise the .pst file as a valid Personal Folder file when I tried to open it, however.

This morning, I ran the same profile interactively again and it worked fine.

Strange ...
