|
|
Hardware: HPZD7000 laptop with 60GB drive, 50GB Used
Software: ViceVersaPro Build 2.0.0.9 (Eval, Day #1) running on XP Professional SP2. No firewall, using McAfee Managed AntiVirus
Profile: Set to MIRROR files from local NTFS to remote W23K Server (files include Outlook 2003 PST files) - VSS Turned on.
Even though I've rebooted (and finally got past the VSS/Sql Server Simple Mode Database issue!) I still find that I'm seemingly unable to use VSS within ViceVersa.
Output from VSSADMIN list writers gives me the following:
Code: | Writer name: 'MSDEWriter'
Writer Id: {f8544ac1-0611-4fa5-b04b-f7ee00b03277}
Writer Instance Id: {0c81daca-8125-4b4e-b146-bb1c7dbcfedf}
State: [1] Stable
Writer name: 'Microsoft Writer (Bootable State)'

State: [1] Stable
Writer name: 'Microsoft Writer (Service State)'

Writer Instance Id: {034f74a9-e4d1-462b-867f-88d456a274b0}
State: [1] Stable
Writer name: 'IIS Metabase Writer'
Writer Id: {59b1f0cf-90ef-465f-9609-6ca8b2938366}
Writer Instance Id: {a6ab323c-425e-4bba-a8e9-27124fd127be}
State: [2] Waiting for freeze
Writer name: 'WMI Writer'
Writer Id: {a6ad56c2-b509-4e6c-bb19-49d8f43532f0}
Writer Instance Id: {b90d5dfc-309a-47cb-a347-e37b05724394}
State: [2] Waiting for freeze |
The VSS Service is started.
Output from ViceVersaPro:
Code: |
Starting... Ok
Initializing Volume Shadow Copy DLL ...
Creating Volume Shadow Copy for C: ... |
Examination of both the ViceVersa process shows a thread waiting within a call to the VSSSAPI.DLL. Examination of the VSSVC.EXE service shows that after a brief spurt of excitement, Read/Writes and Memory are all relatively static (with just odd sporadic minute increases).
So far I've given the process over 30 minutes to complete and still nothing.
Any ideas? Are there any other diagnostic tools I could run on XP to ascertain if the problem is related to my XP or the VV software?
Thanks in advance,

Guess my answer was in my original post: Both the IIS Metabase and the WMI Writera are stuck in the VSS_WS_WAITING_FOR_FREEZE state (from the little I understand about VSS, this state shouldn't last more than 60 seconds; ergo something feels wrong there!).
Taken a crash course in VSC this morning - not quite what I expected to do today!
I'll try another reboot later on when I can and see if that fixes the problem.

Yes, it seems that both the IIS Metabase and the WMI Writera are stuck in the VSS_WS_WAITING_FOR_FREEZE, ViceVersa is hanging waiting for the VSC copy to be created.... _________________ --
