Just wanted to know if there's a way to get the log file in ascii instead of binary text file.
Thanks |

It is not possible because in ViceVersa PRO 2 all logs are unicode text files. As a workaround you could open the log in Notepad and then save it as a ASCII file. _________________ --

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in.
I used version 1 at my last job and just bought a couple copies of Ver 2 Pro. I am sadly disappointed that the log files are in UNICODE and not standard ASCII text files. My text editor of choice does not support UNICODE.
With all the changes in Ver 2, I would have looked for other backup options if I knew I could not readily access the log files.
Tom
PS: Who uses notepad? I had to hunt it down to view my log files!
PPS: Why the cop-out in not supporting ASCII? As a former programmer, I know it is not difficult to offer an option to save files in various formats. |

Did you try using VVLogViewer? This comes with the VV PRO 2 installation (you can find it under start->all programs->ViceVersa PRO 2->Tools). It can read UNICODE files. UNICODE is now the standard character encoding on Windows, but I understand that you may want to use an older editor that does not support UNICODE (yet). I have logged your request to have a flag where you can specify not to use UNICODE log files. thanks for the feedback! _________________ --

I just found a couple of tools to help sort these log files.
The first tool converts the log files to ANSI text if you have alot of log files. Otherwise, manual conversion of each file is great.
The next tool is a vbscript to scan for the specific lines that indicate
profile started, done, average, and exit inside a directory of log files. |

I also have problems due to the change to unicode logs. I have programs that send emails with plain text and include the log file at the end. My text on the emails is in ASCII but the rest of the email has multiple spaces and line feeds due to the unicode.
When do you think you will release the option to set a switch as mentioned in the May post? |
