It is quite rare to exceed 256 characters for a file path name. If that is needed, ViceVersa PRO 2 now supports long path names exceeding 256 chars. To enable this in a specific folder you will need to prefix the folder name with \\?\

Example
To allow paths longer than 256 characters in c:\folder\backup\
use \\?\c:\folder\backup\ as source (or target) in ViceVersa.

Where do I put the "\\?"? I tried putting it infront of my Source and Target, but that didn't work...

Didn't realize it's a "\\?\", I'll give that a try and see if that works.

Yes, it needs to be exactly \\?\

To allow paths > 256 chars in c:\folderA\ use \\?\c:\folderA\

To specify such a UNC path, use the "\\?\UNC\" prefix. For example,
"\\?\UNC\<server>\<share>".

We recently upgraded to V2 to give us the long path support. For copying files between source and target it appears to work fine.
Should the same facility work for archiving?

We have the following configured for the archive path...

"\\?\UNC\SERVER\VV_Archive\".

However, when trying to copy files to the archive the following error is reported in the log

"2005-09-28 20:03:10 : Copying \\Server\Clean Water West\D Contracts\....................\Arrangement.dwg [Path with more than 259 characters. Can not create or replace "\\server\VV_Archive\\server\Clean Water West\...................Arrangement.dwg_(2005-09-28_20-03-08_DEL_T).dwg".] [ERROR]. Skipped."

Firstly, I assume that the double reference to the server name (highlighted) is because we hasd the "Append source / target path to Archive folder" option selected. (Which we've now removed). However, is there a way to allow long path names in archiving? What appears to be happening is that the target files marked for archiving cannot be copied to the archive location - they are therefore not deleted from the target folder.

Any ideas much appreciated.

John

There is currently an issue in ViceVersa 2.0.0.8 with using \\?\ for the archiving paths. We are working to fix this in the next release (build 2.0.0.9) due out soon.

By the way, would you mind send us the complete log file to support@tgrmn.com so we can recreate the exact same scenario on our machines and use it for testing? thanks Smile
