There must be a way using VV Pro to do what I thought was a typical task. I would like to back up a series of folders complete with all subfolders and files. I would like to preserve the pathname and file structure exactly as it is on the Source. The intention of having a backup is to have it match exactly the source. What I have found is using Backup I get all the files and folders but lose the folder structure.
eg I'd like to copy C:\Data (and all sub-folders and files) to E:\VV_Backup\Data\. Complete, exactly as original, except contained in folder VV_Backup\etc
Instead what I am getting is the contents of Data (subfolders and files) copied folder VV_Backup. Losing the Folder "Data".
Is there a convenient way to do this?
P.S. My Source Target looks like this C:\data <to> E:\VV_Backup\ as selected using the SOurce-Target Selection. |

Thanks. Yes that's what I'd like to do but I find that the destination folder name isnt copied automatically. Seems like it should be. But it appears I have to enter it in manually. I have several hundred folders to backup. Complicated by the fact that even if I enter the name, it looks for that folder say its 'E:\VV_Backup\ Data', and since not there it stops and requires me to create the folder first. Is there no automatic way to do this?
Thanks again. |

Hi, there is an option to create root source / target folders automatically in profile settings -> folders.
You may also use the folder variable <sourcewithoutdrive>
This variable can only be used for targets. It expands to the corresponding source folder, without drive. For instance if the source is "C:\source\folder\" and the target is "E:\target\folder\<source>\", the variable expands the target to "E:\target\folder\source\folder\".
In your case you would use
C:\Data\ to E:\VV_Backup\<sourcewithoutdrive>\
C:\AnotherFolder\AnotherSubFolder to E:\VV_Backup\<sourcewithoutdrive>\
etc.

Thanks! Those two things were exactly what I was missing. Working fine now. |
