I'm in the process of evaluating VV as I need a robust NAS to NAS backup utility for my home network.

However I have hit upon an issue. When executing the backup, a large number of files (not all) fail to copy to target. The error message returned by VV is "[Can not read data. The specified network name is no longer available.] Error."

I know that both NAS are functioning perfectly as they can be accessed and copied to/from using a separate desktop and my PS3.

Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

Seems pointless me trying to backup if random files will fail.

Thanks.

Hi, first try the "network friendly scanning" option in profile settings -> execution. Then try slowing the sync process in profile settings -> performance, set the speed to 80. Let us know how it goes, thanks.

80?!!! I'm getting 3 at best! From an external Freecom USB HDD via laptop to WD MyBookworld NAS over the wireless home network.

Found out that the NAS to NAS issue was to do with one of them being an Iomega which are prone to crashes, so have just ordered a Buffalo Linkstation to connect to the WD. Will try VV again once the Buffalo arrives.

In the meantime, any thoughts on network speeds? Anything I can do within VV itself to improve things? Or is the slowness likely to be a symptom of the NAS rather than the network (BT 8mb).
