Hello - I have an issue where I have data on a destination drive (Buffalo Ext Hard Drive, NIC attached, drive letter F:\ ) that isn't related to my backup profile (located at bottom of post)
is getting deleted. I'm not sure of the contents because the parent folder of this data on F:\ is gone and I have all these DFxxxx.xxx individual files in Deleted Items.
If there is data on a destination/target drive that isn't in the source drive, is that data going to be deleted? Does it also mean that when an entire folder is deleted that it won't keep the folder listed and just list individual files? I would like this ext drive to have other uses than just backing up data from the source via VV.

Hello,
backup (mirror) does delete the target files if no longer in source, the replication methods do not , see http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item27.htm
When deleted, if the archive folder is enabled, the files are copied in there under the appropriate subfolder name (not just in the root folder).

OK - So I changed to replication and enabled the Archive folders. What method of replication is most like a normal tape incremental backup? I've read the three options and I would think a combo of a couple sound most like an incremental backup. And I still want this drive to store other data than what's affected by the source data drive letter.
Also are the DFxxxx.xxx the deleted files from the mirror operation since I didn't have an Archive folder setup? Thank you. |
