|
|
Hi,
I use viceversa to sync 1 volume to a mirror (with archiving too).
works a treat..
I would like to track what new files are added to the source volume.
regular snapshots of the source folder could be used to track this.
Can the creation of a snapshot be set to happen during the normal nightly mirror?..
I know i could schedule the server to do it seperately.. but seems wasteful if vversa is going to analyse the source during the scheduled mirror anyway.
If it already is able to do this.. let me know how.. if not.. maybe a whish list item.
basically.. each night.. a snapshot of the source is generated (date named?) prior to (or during) the mirror operation.
thanks

It's a very interesting feature. Would you create the snapshot before or after backup? Would you use the snapshot before backing up next time to see what has changed?

Assuming VV can compare and report the differences between 2 snapshots?... one would simply perform the snapshot after the backup/mirror..(as part of the backup/mirror operation) then if I was to wonder why the volume has grown 6GB overnight.. I can compare the last snapshot to the previous nights snapshot and see who and what has changed between the 2..
maybe even present this ability within the app.. a menu where you can select comparison from a list of the last 14 snapshots recorded .. pick 2 and view the difference.. would be very intuitive for IT monitoring disk space.

VV can compare 2 snapshots already: a function could be added to create snapshots automatically for source and/or target in a specified location each time ViceVersa runs. You would then be able to start ViceVersa and pick 2 snapshots to compare, one in source folder and one in target folder and VV would show the differences. I like it!
The other interesting feature would be to compare the current status of source (or target) vs a previous snapshot to see what has changed (and see what ViceVersa needs to copy to target in the next run, without needed to scanning the target). _________________ --

Sooo.. can I leave it with you to run it past TGRMN development?
I guess for now.. I just need to run a seperate scheduled script after the backup script for now..
do you have an example of a batch script that can do 1st VV run (the backup) then do the 2nd VV run (the snapshot) after 1st is completed?
(rather than 2 scripts.. and trying to time them without overlap!)
