Hi,
I haven't yet bought ViceVersa Pro, but want to know the answer to a couple of questions first. I'm currently using RoboCopy and XXcopy to accomplish my task, and while it works fine, it's slow, because I'm copying literally thousands of small files, in hundreds of directories per day. Everything is in directories based on \\Root\Year\Monty\Day\FolderID\Subfolder1\Subfolder2 format...so there are many directories to scan. The actual file copying wouldn't take long, but when I run my scripts it takes a lot of time to scan for the new files. I figured this type of Sync would be much quicker and happen right away.
My concern is that I'm backing up from Windows Storage Server 2008 to a Sun Storage system. Due to the way that timestamps are done differently between the OS's, I had to make a couple changes to my scripts on Robocopy. 1 is that I have to use a DST switch to ignore file time differences due to Daylight Savings Time of up to an hour. The other switch tells it to think of the unix file system as a FAT file system, because NTFS and FAT store dates differently. The remote system is mounted using SAMBA, and apparently would appear more as FAT in timestamp format.
The second concern is that although I'm logged in as an administrator, I set task scheduler to run as a different user....a user that had permissions to map the remote SAMBA drive. So I need to make sure that with ViceVersa it will allow me to actually run the app and perform the copy as a DIFFERENT user than what's logged in...actually, I want to install it as a service so it runs even if nobody is logged in...but I need it to copy as a specific user.
Can anyone tell me if all of these features are in ViceVersa Pro? If so, I'll give it a shot, but if not, I can't risk the consequences as the data is sensitive.
