Hi,
Maybe this should go into the wishlist, but I'll ask here first since I can't figure it out without doing a lot of manual work.
I have 300 laptops that I need to backup based on file type inclusion. Certain folders are excluded because by corporate group policy the user cannot create folders or store files in certain locations on the laptop.
Multiple source/target questions follow:
Q1) Can VV automagically create the target folder of the source machines UNC? If the source is \\FL14-xxxxxx\c$ can VV create a folder at the target called NY14-xxxxxx?
How is this handled by default if my target is H:\test? Will VV know not to overwrite each \Users folder (from Vista) each time the next machine is executed?
Q2) Compression question. I need to compress each target folder (not subfolders individually) into a specific compressed file format, whether RAR, ZIP, or other of my choosing. The entire source machine host name target folder needs to be compressed and not the individual files themselves.
Recall, in Q1 above I have and want target folders created by the machine host name (DNS) without having to manually create 300 at the target location using multiple sources profile option. The compression in VV is file based. Can VV compress the root folder for each machine host name specified as the source when I define them (\\FL16-xxxxxx)?
Is this now a scripting answer and what is that answer by the way?
Q3) I will search and then ask the next question in a separate post.
Thank you,
Tom[/u] |

Hello
q1) you could use folder variables for that , for instance
source : H:\test
target : \\FL14-xxxxxx\<machine><user> (machine and user are replaced by the values on the machine running ViceVersa)
This requires one profile per machine
q2) VV can only apply compression per file
