|
|
When doing a Mirror from Windows 7 PC to a NAS device a .thumbnail directory is created along with a thumbnail file for each image type file.
This does not happen on a PC to PC mirror
This screws up the entire backup and causes the thumbnails to be deleted the next time a mirror is done.
The third time will add them back in and so on and so on. |

The problem was not with the ViceVersa Software, but rather with the NAS software itself. I am using a IOMEGA 1X2-2 which has a feature called Media Server which allows ITUNE direct usage. That feature automatically creates a ".thumbnail" sub directory in any folder containg an IMAGE file (JPEG is all I have tested). That folder will have an automatically generated thumbnail file for each JPEG File.
So when you do a mirror using a Master Folder to the NAS these extra files are created on the NAS which do not exist in the Master Folder. This causes a non compare the next time and massive deleting if you are talking about a large number of JPEG files.
I had incorrrctly stated that this did not occur when doing a simple copy to the NAS. I just did not wait long enough, because it does happen with a drag and drop or any copy.
The solution is to disable the Media Server which causes a problem with ITUNES. The IOMEGA Forum has asked that this be incorporated as a user selectable function since when this happens it is almost impossible to delete these extra files. BUT ViceVersa actually provides a solution by deleting them on the next Mirror.
Thank you for responding, I have no further comments |
