|
|
I am testing VV (and other back-up/verification software) for Digital Asset Management photography groups and preparing to write my reviews of the software but am experiencing an issue:
Unless I boot into Safe Mode, I get many false errors on both compare and sync. This mostly occurs with very large .tif files (150 mb), especially ones that are "RAW" scans of film scanned as 64 bit files (R.G.B plus inferred).
I have found this issue both on Vista 64 and a clean install of Win7 64. I turned off Indexing/paging/system restore and all anti virus or firewall software (none installed on the clean Win7 OS partition).
I have also tried keeping the source and destinations on the same partition.
I get these errors using VV, as well as SyncBack Pro (similar to VV) and ExactFile and Image Verifier (which do hash and hash verifications).
Even on the clean OS install with no other programs loaded, I get this condition.
The PC otherwise runs perfectly.
Do you have any ideas about this?
Thank you.

What type of errors?
Do you get no errors at all in safe mode?
Are you running ViceVersa in a virtual machine?

Thank you for your follow-up.
The errors are false reports of copy/verification errors and/or different results when re-checking copied files multiple times. I do not get these errors in safe mode. I am not using virtual machine. I tried on an existing partition running vista and a new install partition running fresh win7. I do not believe there are any actual file issues as I have inspected them in Photoshop.
Below I have provided a summary of the actions and results, including a few lines from the log files. I have longer log files to provide if desired.
Essentially my tests consisted of copying one folder to another on the same PC and then re-checking the resulting source/destination files. I did this in both safe mode and normal mode. My results were different on rechecks of the same folders when repeating the checks. Also when I copied the same source to 4 different destinations (on the same partition) the results varied.
The problem files are notmally large Tifs and large video files.
Below are the specifics:
Summary with only minimal excerpts of log files:

Hello
Please try a test without using the tracking database (disable it in the ViceVersa profile settings -> execution) and use the Backup method instead of The Synchronization method. Enable CRC comparison (profile settings -> comparison) and enable also CRC verification post-copy (profile settings -> advanced settings).
Just to make sure it's not a problem with the tracking database.
