Hi all,

I have installed and configured VVLauncher, and I intend to use the Volume Shadow Copy service to replicate files immediately on modification. While this service is, by default, part of the Windows 2003 R2 server installation, I noticed that it is configured to be started manually.

For VVLancher to work properly, do I need to change this to "Automatic"?

Thanks,

AL.

Yes, the Volume Shadow Copy service must be running to be able to use shadow copies. I recommend you use VVEngine on your server to run as a service: http://www.tgrmn.com/web/vvengine/vvengine.htm

thanks

Thanks for the infos, I'll reconfigure my machines accordingly. Regarding VVEngine: I do have an (almost) working solution based on VVlauncher, and project is near deadline, so I am very reluctant to make major changes now.

There is one exception though: VVLauncher is currently running a while (see my other post), and then, without obvious reasons, things somehow get wild, there is a problem with the volume shadow copy service, and the replication stops. Currently we haven't found any workaround, even rebooting the server doesn't help. We revert the server harddrive to an image, and can continue working a couple of days.

This is, obviously, not a solution to stay, but ViceCersa ist just one of many components in a larger project, some givinq me headaches, and the priority assigned to fix this specific issue is pretty low. We do reset our test bed usig images anyway, so I haven't looked into the VV and volume shadow copy issue yet.

What I am saying is: if you know of problems in VVLauncher regarding this issue, which are fixed in VVEngine, I'd start shifting from VVLauncher to VVEngine right away. If you say, that both shound work well, there is no reason to do it right now, since most neat features of VVEngine are irrelevant for this specific project.

Thanks,

AL.
