|
|
I am using ViceVersa Pro 2.5 Build 2501 to backup from a 32 bit 2003 Server to a 64 bit 2008 Server. All the files are copying over correctly, but I've notice that not all the NTFS permissions are generated on the 2008 server. For example, I see 4 domain users on the destination folder or file that have access but there are 6 domain users on the source folder or file. 2 are missing.
To make matters worse, I used Robocopy to copy all the files over with the proper NTFS permissions (after ViceVersa didn't seem to work properly), but then when I used ViceVersa Pro to synchronize any files skipped due to in use, the missing file permissions were gone again! I have ViceVersa configured to bring over the NTFS permissions.
This is a big problem for me. Is there something I need to do? I am running the 32 bit version of ViceVersa Pro 2.5 from the source 32 bit server.
Thanks, Bill |

Anyone have a reponse to this?
I have a similar problem where the NTFS permissions are not being updated.
Example, on Monday I make the original copy from Source to Target.
Tuesday, some permissions get changed on some Source folders.
Wednesday, I run another Compare and VV does not update the permissions in the Target that were changed the day before. |

Make sure that the permissions on the root directory are EXACTLY the same and then try the replication again. It worked for me.

Thanks for the quick reply.
How did you deal with local accounts that have permissions on the source?
This source folder has the local Administrators group as Full Control. This group then has all kinds of AD user accounts. But I cannot assign local groups to the remote server of course.
Thanks again.

I just had Server1\Administrators having Full Control on Server 1, as well as Server2\Administrators having Full Control on Server 2.
It worked for me. Make sure you have each group added to the root in addition to SYSTEM and CREATOR OWNER for example. Maybe it doesn't matter as much with local groups but I tried to make it match as closely as possible.
When I removed all the files I had on the destination server after that, I re-synched and everything was fine with security.
Hope it works for you. _________________ Thanks,
