Access denied etc

I am a new user of ViceVersa Pro 2 and am experiencing major problems in backing up my files. All I want to do is mirror the data files on my hard disk to a DVD. I am being denied access to most of my files. These are mainly just ordinary Word files, but include all kinds of image files (TIFFs, JPEGs, etc), most of which I have created myself or downloaded from my camera. I repeatedly get a warning that files are read-only, even though they are not. I have also noted datestamps which are completely wrong. I was looking forward to straightforward backups, so this is very disappointing. I am not a techie.
