|
|
We are running VVengine on a windows 2003 server and occasionally the service shuts down normally as if someone has stopped the service via the HTTP interface. However, no one has clicked on that link that we know of and no one admits to stopping it via the service manager.
2 questions:
1. Does VV shut itself off for unexplained reasons? If so, does it write to a different log about why it shut down?
2. Is there any debug logging we could enable that would show if someone clicked on the http interface option to shut down the VVengine service?
The event log looks like this:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7036
Date: 5/4/2010
Time: 10:54:07 AM
User: N/A
Computer: QS1GATEPROD06
Description:
The VVEngine service entered the stopped state.
Event Type: Information
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7035

Time: 10:54:07 AM
User: The user was here. Deleted for security reasons.
Computer: QS1GATEPROD06
Description:
The VVEngine service was successfully sent a stop control.
The VVEngine log shows this:

OK. I found the VVengine log file and see that it did actually crash rather than get shut down normally. There must be an exception handler that does a normal shut down. It would actually be more beneficial for it to pass on the exception after it reported the crash information to the log and the rpt and dmp files, since the service manager would notice and re-start the service. In any case, here is the info from the log and the rpt file. I have also sent the full dmp and rpt to support.

05/04/2010 10:54:05 [864861.059-PID:2292-04972] An unhandled exception has occurred in VVEngine. VVEngine has to close.
A crash report has been saved to "C:\Program Files\VVEngine\vvengine.rpt" and "C:\Program Files\VVEngine\vvengine.dmp".
Please send the report to support@tgrmn.com along with an explanation of where VVEngine crashed.
Please also attach VVEngine.log file.
Here is the rpt:

Did the .dmp or .rpt offer any clues to the cause of the VVengine crash? Let me know if there is more info I can provide to assist you. |
