Hello,

Yes, I've sent two emails to customer support in the last year, and tried to start a new thread/topic here last week on Compare and Merge. The new topic never showed up, the emails weren't answered, and I found this thread. So I figured CandM has gone away. The last update to CandM was quite some time ago.

I found Compare and Merge the most elegant of its class. I'm a fan. So much so we bought at least a dozen licenses for others at our site. But we all recently upgraded to W7 (64) from XP (32), and have lost the Explorer shell integration.

Comparing two folders used to be as simple as selecting both then right-clicking and selecting Compare. Now that the feature is lost in W7, it's much more cumbersome to do folder compares by launching the program, selecting folder compare, navigating to the first folder, then navigating to the second folder, then refreshing. Other software developers here are now pushing to switch to Beyond Compare, which continues to offer shell integration in W7, but I keep holding them off and trying to contact you guys to fix this, even if it means a cost upgrade. Wink

Thanks for your time.

Hi, I'll look into that, I think it's just a matter of recompiling the windows explorer extension for 64-bit. I agree C&M , especially in combination with ViceVersa, is the best text comparison program there is! Smile thanks

Hello, have you had a chance to look into this? A new distribution with the fix would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, we have a new CompareAndMerge installer for 64-bit that we are about to release: the Windows Explorer extension was now compiled for 64-bit and it's working fine. Please write to support @ tgrmn.com if you wish to try it, thank you.

BTW, you should give a try to ViceVersa PRO + Compare And Merge too Smile Together they are very powerful for comparing and reconciling source code and text files. ViceVersa can be used to compare the folders, while Compare And Merge is invoked by ViceVersa to compare the file's contents. thanks.

Thanks, sent email yesterday asking to try 64 bit version, right after you posted this. Haven't heard back.

How is ViceVersa integration different from the built-in folder compare that already exists in Compare and Merge (which is simple and works nicely)?

Marc

Hi, got your e-mail, I'll write back asap. ViceVersa can be used for all type of files (not only text files) and it's designed to deal with a bigger number of files. Myself I also find the displaying of the comparison by ViceVersa (side-by-side) clearer and easier to use. thanks
