|

I am having a few problems with the Pro version that I am unable to resolve:
1. I am synchronizing 2 servers every 6 minutes. There are about 500,000 files that get checked. During the overnight hours it takes 3-4 minutes to compare and execute. However, starting at around 5am, the process starts to take anywhere between 45min and 90min. I assumed this was because normal web traffic was consuming resources, bandwidth, etc. The problem is, regardless of what I do, I cannot seem to make VV run as a high priority. Almost the entire time is taken when doing the source scan...the target scan and comparison takes only about a minute. Is there something wrong with my source server? Any suggestions?
2. If logging is enabled VV will randomly get "stuck" when doing the execute part of the process. I have seen this both when using VVEngine and when running manually. In both cases there is nothing I can do but kill the service and start over. I have let the process run in excess of 3 hours but it fails to continue. If I disable logging, it seems to run. The problem there is that there are no logs! Any thoughts?
Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
Thanks. |

Hello
which version / build of ViceVersa PRO are you using? Please upgrade to the latest version first if not done already.

I already updated to the latest version. Thought maybe that would fix the issue but it didn't. |

Please check profile settings -> performance, make sure process priority is set to default or normal.

Are you sharing the log file between two profiles? Where is the log file kept, over network or locally, which folder?

I've tried changing priority several times. Currently set to default.
I've tried renaming the log file, ensured it's the only profile using that log file and moved it to a different location.
Nothing seems to be working. To sum up...the operation takes 3-4 minutes until about 5:30am when it jumps to 45min+. Today, the process ran for 2 hours and got stuck trying to delete a file from the source.
I also tried taking the source server offline entirely...no traffic to it at all...and it still ran very slow.
When I watch the compare it appears to run smooth for 10-15 seconds and then stops for 10-15 seconds or longer. It's always when doing the files and subfolders in the source (target runs perfect all the time).
thanks. |

I was finally able to determine what was happening...almost by accident.
As it turns out, the source server has Symantec Endpoint Protection installed with a daily scan starting around 4:30am. Almost by accident I stumbled on the process (rtvscan.exe) that had been running for 10 hours straight. After a bit of research I killed the process which stopped the scan and voila...back to 5 minute synchronization.
So...now to find a better antivirus package.

It seems there are 2 things that affect performance of VV. After disabling the virus scan everything ran fine for a few hours. Then...a similar issue started up again. I disabled the indexing service and things are running smooth again.
My VV profile synchronizes over 500,000 files in about 5 minutes. I can live with that! |

Thanks, was the indexing service and virus scanner active for the source or the target ? Are you replicating / backing up or synchronizing between source ans target? thanks! _________________ --

The indexing service was running on the source, but was disabled on the target. By disabling it on the source as well, that resolved the majority of the issues.
I have 4 profiles that run using VV Engine...there are 2 backup and 2 sync. 2 profiles run when a change is detected, 1 runs every 6 minutes and 1 runs every 6 hours.
I should point out that ALL profiles run very quickly now.
I also re-enabled the virus scan and noticed that it now only takes about an hour to run with the indexing service disabled. During that time, VV does take a little longer (24 minutes instead of 5) but this is acceptable as it only seems to happen once each day.
I'm very relieved that this problem is over. Hopefully others will find this useful.
