|
|
Hi:
I'd like to use VV to copy the server 2008 folder hosting my user's redirected My Documents and Desktop items. I use the standard MS redirected permissions (admin does not have rights to the shared folders) as is recommended by MS.
Most backup software (such as Backup Exec) can access the redirected folders for a backup even though an admin cannot browse to them.
Apparently VV runs with the Admin privledges because it cannot mirror the items in the redirected folders. Anyone know how to rectify this?
I do not want to change the permissions on the folders to get VV to run, rather, I'd like VV to run with the permissions required to access the folders in their current state... in the same way that Backup Exec, Windows Server Backup, etc. do.
I hope all that makes sense.
Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply.
When I start VV by right-clicking and selecting Run As Administrator it seems to work (partly, see #2 below). However if I log in to the server as my domain admin (which is also locally set to be an admin on the machine, but still domain) it doesn't. So... Local Admin yes, domain admin no.
1 - can you tell me how to run and schedule VV to run as the local administrator? Or at least point me to the right place in the manual? I found a section on running VVscheduler that mentioned it has the same perms. as Windows Scheduler but I think that would be as the logged in user (the domain admin).
2 - Even if I run VV as the local machine administrator the target files are marked as Read Only. I set VV to copy the file security settings but the source files are not RO. Not sure what is going on there. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks Again.

Make sure you specify the account in the VVScheduler task as machinename\user

This is quite strange... do all the target files become read-only , that is have the read-only attribute?
