Hello,
I'm in the planning stages of a new backup/replication strategy for a client of mine and am researching software alternatives. Hope you all could help out.
Here's our setup:
1- Windows Server 2003 SMB file server. This is our only server and acts as domain controller, file server and fax server. It's primary purpose is to host our electronic health records database and log files, which has grown to be about 60GB collectively. Currently we are backing up user files, faxes and other important information nightly to a 36/72GB DAT 4MM tape drive. Our EHR database has outgrown our tape drive capacity so it's copied nightly to a 250GB network hard drive. This doesn't backup incrementally it copies everything every night. The backup takes a very long time to complete.
Future setup:
I'd like to install a netgear ReadyNAS 1100, either 2TB or 4TB. I'd abandon the tape and network hard drive backups and save everything to the NAS.
I'd like to create a full backup of the EHR files Monday-Friday. So I'll always have 5 current backups in case. Incremental backups of user files, faxes and everything else is OK.
Questions:
Would you, the Vice Versa community recommend this product to me after reading a brief description as to what I'd like to accomplish?
Can I mirror my entire system with Vice Versa, OS files included?
Thanks for your advice!

We (TGRMN Software) would ViceVersa was designed exactly for the scenario you describe above.

Yes, but focusing on the actual data files would make the backup faster.
