|
I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Currently I have 4 servers. They are DC's in 4 cities. All maintain a "share" folder that will be identical.
There are a number of subdirectories in that "Share" and those must stay in Sync... and I have a HUGE amount of data to maintain between them. Over a million files I would guess at present, but I hope to prune them soon.
I've attempted syncing the "Shares" folder via Launcher and the comparison literally takes 4+ hours between Server A and Server B... and still has 2 more servers to compare. Ridiculously slow.
I've tried a round robin approach from A to B, B to C, C to D and D to A... And besides still taking forever, I believe the D files are "newer" than the A files when it finally comes back around, creating a different set of problems.
Would it work/make sense...speed up this process, to use a separate profile for each subfolder and run it via Scheduler as a "Sync"? I don't mind setting them up if it will work and keep the files more current. (The folders must sync as I have roaming users.) Can VV handle that many individual sync'd files at once? (about 16 Large folders). When running as a sync from Scheduler, how often would they sync or must that be a scheduled event?..(not real time.) I have version 2.5 Pro on each machine, and the powers that be aren't going to go for additional purchases of VV Engine. I Actually have 6 licenses, that will include 2 more servers yet to be deployed.... All 2008 R2 X64. I can split up those profiles over the various servers to reduce the load and increase the speed. Just wanted your input before I throw a whole lot of time into it and it not work right, or that there is a better way. Also, are you guys ever going to come up with the client side "monitor software"? You've been discussing it since 2005, or is VV Engine your answer?
Thanks!

Hello
syncing 1 million files can be challenging if the connection between the servers is relatively slow... You could split the job into multiple profiles, but I do not know if you would achieve the desired speed. You could try with 200K per profile and see if that would work.
