|
|
I've just got a new home computer and now I find that, although I click Synchronization, Vice-Versa reinstates deleted files in the source directories rather than deleting them in the target. I presume this has got to do with the tracking database. When I click on the Help button in the comparison window it produces an explanatory key to the various elements in the window. Scrolling down through this, there is a Help link for execution methods. Clicking on this produces a description of what the different execution methods do, followed by an account of the tracking database which begins with the words "Turning this option on..." but I can't find anywhere in the entire Vice Versa website how you turn this option on (the same applies to the Logging option which is described immediately after the Tracking Database). So can someone tell me (a) how to turn the Tracking Database on and (b) if that isn't my problem, how can I get VV to delete files in the target which have already been deleted in the source? I don't have this problem with my work computer. |

Thanks for reply but I have still gotten nowhere.
There is a Profile Settings window which appears on the top right of the screen when you click View Profile Settings. Under Execution the following appears:
- Method: Synchronization
- Tracking Database: "C:\ProgramData\ViceVersa PRO 2\vvdb1.tdb"
- No archive for deleted/replaced source files - No archive for deleted/replaced target files
When I click on the Tracking Database file path I get a "File Not Found" reply.
The other place where I have found Profile Settings/Execution is from the Help/Contents menu which brings up the Execution Settings window which tells you that a Tracking Database is required to run Synchronization and further down under the Tracking Database subheading says that "Turning this option on will enable synchronization tracking" but (rather unhelpfully I might add) doesn't tell you how to do this.
Is there somewhere else that I am missing?
I would appreciate further help with this as otherwise I will have to give up Vice Versa which worked fine with my previous computer. I am using VV Pro.

Profile File: C:\Users\PBreathnach\Documents\ViceVersa PRO 2\profile1.fsf
Folders
- "C:\Users\PBreathnach\Documents\Academic\" <to> "F:\Academic\" (Include Subfolders)
- "C:\Users\PBreathnach\Documents\Non-Academic\" <to> "F:\Non-Academic\" (Include Subfolders)
Comparison
- Comparison Type: Size and Timestamp
- Ignore 2 seconds difference
- Ignore 1 hour difference
Execution
- Method: Synchronization
- Tracking Database: "C:\ProgramData\ViceVersa PRO 2\vvdb1.tdb"
- No archive for deleted/replaced source files
- No archive for deleted/replaced target files
I am now also getting the same particular file showing up as a conflict file on every comparison, even though it has not been changed in both source and target since the previous execution.
Thanks for your attention to this problem

Hello
This are the correct settings for a file synchronization. But you mentioned that if you delete a file in source it is re-instated instead of deleted from target... is that still happening.
Regarding the conflict, try resetting the database in profile settings -> execution. What file gives this error?

Hi
I've just run a few tests and tbe problem of deleted files being reinstated appears to have gone - if I delete a file in the source it is also deleted in the target and vice versa, as should be happening. I don't know what I did (if anything) to bring this about.
My conflict problem appears to apply only to Powerpoint files. If I open a Powerpoint file and then close it without modification, on the next pre-synchronization comparison it appears as a conflict, with exactly the same timestamp but a slightly different file size. Any ideas on this one?
Thanks

Sorry, I overlooked your suggestion to reset the database (regarding the file conflict problem). I have just done that and it appears to have solved the problem.
Thanks for your help!
