H i all,

while it is not a VV problem, I ask this question here, probably someone comes up with an idea ...

In short: VV is in "mirror" mode, there is a "soure" and a "target" server, and i am looking for a way to actively deny/block VV access on the target machine, assuming that I cannot simply stop the VV service on the source machine. Any Ideas how I can accomplish this?

The long story: I have two servers, a Master and a Standby. VV runs on the master (=source) server and mirrors files from Master to Standby, making use of the "shadow copy" and "replicate on file change" functionality.

Now a condition occurs so the Standby is going productive. From this point on, the Standby is on its own, starts changing files, and the Master may not replicate anything to it any more. The only way to reliably prohibit file corruption is, that the Standby server, once commanded to go online, *somehow* refuses to receive any files sent to it by VV on the Master server.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Armin.

Hello

In the profile settings you could setup a batch file (or vbs script) that runs before the profile execution. The script checks for the existence of a file on the Standby server: if the file is found, the profile is not run (the script returns a code not equal to zero). When Standby goes online you create the trigger file, which stops the file mirroring.

thanks

Think I found a better workaround. I reconfigured VV to replicate to individually shared folders on the target machine, other than replicating to the C$,D$ ... shares. THis way I can inhibit VV replication to the target machine by denying network access to those shares, or by simply removing the shares.
