I’m new to VV and must ask a question that’s probably very basic but still has me stumped.

I want to copy a main folder and also subfolders containing files to a specific location on an external hard drive, just like you can in Windows Explorer. It’s important that the name of the main folder copied onto the new location.

My problem is that I’ve tried all the methods (mirror, augment, refresh, update target and consolidation) and the result is that everything gets copied EXCEPT the name of the main folder. I want that placed on the new location also, as it identifies the event from where the images came.

Example: When I put “Jones Wedding” as the source, I want the following coped from drive C

“Jones Wedding”
subfolder “Ceremony” (containing files)
subfolder “Procession” (containing files)

The result is that everything is copied EXCEPT “Jones Wedding” onto my external hard drive. I need that because it’s the name of the wedding and must be included. Yet the transfer starts with “Ceremony.”

That’s the deal? What do I need to do differently? Any advice would be appreciated. Bill

Hello

Try this:
Source = c:\...\Jones Wedding\
Target = x:\Jones Wedding\ (where X is the external drive letter)

thanks

Thanks for responding.

What I want to do is just insert Source c:\...\Jones Wedding\ into an ext. HD that doesn't already have a Jones Wedding folder there. I'm trying to copy the source folder and files to my other drive for the first time.

I want the result to be on Target x:\...\Jones Wedding\ and have the Jones Wedding as the main folder. So far, when using Mirror and the other methods, everything inside of Jones Wedding is inserted but not Jones Wedding. It's a pain to have everything copy over and then have to insert the name of the main folder (Jones Wedding).

Sorry if this is confusing. It just seems like it should work as simply as the "Copy to Folder" command in Windows Explorer.

Hello

With ViceVersa you will have to first create manually the target folder x:\...\Jones Wedding\ and then copy from c:\...\Jones Wedding to x:\...\Jones Wedding

thanks
