One of my profiles is running from time to time, telling me (VVengine screen) that there were changes detected. Having a look to the logs shows that there was nothing to do in that folder - no changes .

Quote:
Last run:
Today at 20:50:49 until 20:52:15 (1 min 26 sec) - (Changes Detected) - Successful

Results of compare from log:
2009-11-21 20:52:13 : [INFO] Source and Target are identical, excluded files/subfolders not considered.

Results of execution from log:
2009-11-21 20:52:13 : [INFO] No files/folders need to be copied/deleted.

The profile is scheduled as follows:

Schedule: Monitor source(s) and run when file changes are detected - Run immediately as soon as source and target are accessible

Why is it running ?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards, Urmel

Hello , could it be that changes are happening to files that are excluded from copying? thanks

Yes - there were surely changes in excluded folders. But therefore those were excluded. Does your question mean that also changes in excluded folders cause VV to act ? If yes - how do I avoid this ?

Hello

Currently VVEngine will run profile even if changes happen to excluded files. This is something that needs to be improved.

thanks

I have noticed this behaviour as well. I have my profile setup to email on success or failure. The trouble is that I get many emails from the profile whenever it runs even though there has not been any files updated due to file and folder exclusions. I basically cannot use the email notify feature because of all the "false" emails that happen.
You have my vote to have this fixed real soon!

thanks for your help

I would also like to see such an option, to run profile only if changes occur to the included files (i.e., as noted here). AJC Active Backup is an example of software that does just this.

Thanks for your explanation. This clarifies it.

Neverthelesss I would like not to talk about a "need for improvement" - in fact, the product is not working as one would normally expect. If you exclude a folder you want the content of these folder and changes to it not to be taken into account for these operation - that usually also includes the consequences for job scheduling.

This is well and truly called a bug. Surely one we can live with for some time but it would be nice to hear about your substantial plans to fix this. Thanks.
