|

I've used Pro 1.x for years and never had a problem with it backing up my ourlook express DBX files while the program was running, but I've just found out that 2.0 hasn't backed up my inbox or sent items DBX files since 8/13/09, which appears to be the date I installed 2.0. Is this a limitation of 2.0?
I closed Outlook Express and ran vice versa 2.0 and it did back it up, but I would rather not have to close it to back up. Here's the log file entry:
2009-10-23 23:41:05 : Copying file P:\My Documents\OUTLOOK EXPRESS DATA\Inbox.dbx <to> G:\E5200 E\My Documents\OUTLOOK EXPRESS DATA\Inbox.dbx (120.82MB) (Overwriting) ... [Can not open "P:\My Documents\OUTLOOK EXPRESS DATA\Inbox.dbx". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.] [ERROR].

I have 3 computers networked and backed up by vice versa. The computer that runs vice versa 2.0 doesn't have Outlook Express, it's a remote computer, so it appears the only way to backup is this:
I installed vice versa on the remote computer and checked shadowing on both computer vice versa profiles. I created a 2nd outlook express directory for DBX files on the same remote HD that my outlook express data is on so that directory is my target. I've setup a schedule for it to backup my outlook data everyday. The problem is that when I run the profile I get this error message:
Initializing Volume Shadow Copy DLL ...
Creating Volume Shadow Copy for E: ... [Volume Shadow Copy creation failed for E:. The system cannot find the file specified.]
[Volume Shadow Copy creation failed for E:. The system cannot find the file specified.] Error.
I checked the target directory after it ran and found the same problem: inbox.dbx and sent items.dbx are not being backed up since they're in use and the shadowing is not working. Is XP trying to create a copy of the whole HD, even though all I need is that one directory? _________________ Gerry Peters |

Yes, that's the way Volume Shadow Copy works on Windows.
Volume Shadow Copies are supported only for local drives, not for network drives.

I've using volume shadow copy on a local drive and getting that message. Why is it not working? This is not involving a network drive. What does that error message mean. Please review my previous post. _________________ Gerry Peters |
