I have been using Vice Versa Pro seemingly successfully since December 2008.

I use it on a company computer. The company has no back up method for locally stored data. A big part of my local data is my personal photographs.

The company issued me a new computer, an HP laptop, a few weeks ago. They don't support Vice Versa so the tech doing the data transfer ignored my Vice Versa files including all set up info.

I reinstalled the software from a download from your site just a few minutes ago.

A couple of issues.

1. My purchase information is being rejected by the software when I try to register.

2. As I said, I started from scratch on the new computer. I am backing up to an external harddrive, a My Book. I read some of your documentation and it seemed (I am a user not programmer or systems guy) that I should use "backup". (I don't recall what I was using before.) I called my laptop "source" and the external drive "target". Your documentation is not very helpful on this seemingly critical point, by the way. When I pressed "execute", the software starting deleting all my files, especially, it seems, the photographs. I cancelled but the damage seems to be done. I have no "My Pictures" subdirectory on the external drive. Can you help me?

All of this comes as a little crisis is happening in my life. I am going on vacation Monday afternoon. I want to take my computer with me but I worry about taking it without a backup of my pictures.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

Backup (mirror source to target) will delete the target files if they are not in the source. Replication will not. I recommend that you check quickly the recycle bin, the files could be in there. Alternatively, use an undelete files program to recover the files. Sad

Your response was only slightly helpful to a user, not a programmer.

Please confirm which is "source" and which is "target". The files being deleted on the external drive were on both drives. Now they are gone from the external drive.

Hello

first copy all the pictures from the external drive "target" to the new laptop "source", then you can start using ViceVersa, you can sync or backup. Click on preview before running to see what files will be deleted / copied etc.

thanks
