Just another note from a dissatisfied long term user. The list of changes truly fits with the designation of 2.5 - a point release. This should definitely be free for 2.0 users.

But if you're going to charge something for a minor upgrade, at least make it reasonable. Two thirds of the full cost is not reasonable for a bunch of bug fixes and a few minor features.

part of the problem is that very few upgrades these days are that significant. I think TFRMN made a mistake by calling the upgrade 2.5. Though that is probably the most accurate description, most other companies would have called it 3.0.

I think TGRMN should reconsider, allow all 2.0 people to upgrade, and when it adds the long promised feature of true mirroring (only comparing files that have changed), call that 3.0 and then charge for the upgrade.

Of all the files synchronization software packages I've looked at, VV is the most flexible, so it is a good product.

I don't know how business is doing, but TGRMN should consider lowering the price, having an Iphone app for free, promoting a free version, etc.

I generally only upgrade for every other release, since the packages rarely have enough changes in one release to warrant paying for it

I have finally upgraded to 2.5 from 2.0. Here's what was my reflexion:

* There is no new feature I would use in 2.5 compared to 2.0! But at least I know I have with 2.5 the most bug free version available, and data preservation has "no price".

* I have recently evaluated competitors, and VV remains a good choice, if not the best, despite some of its limitations. I am used to VV, I have learnt to live with its limitations, and I have a good number of configurations I don't want to spend time to transcribe to a new software.

* Paying for 2.5 is also a contribution towards TGRMN for supporting a future 3.0, although I am a bit sceptical when I see that so few changes were added in 2.5 after such a long period since 2.0.
What is a bit frustrating for me is that VV does not lack many features to be perfect (for my needs), and not "too difficult" stuff to implement (speaking from a programmer pont of view).

Hello Adequat,

Sorry if we asked before ... could you re-list the missing features that would make VV perfect for your needs?

thank you

My main concern is about file/folder selection.

1) ability to have include/excude filters for each source/target pair, rather than global to all. This would allow more accurate backups or synchronizations.

2) option to have include/exclude filters in an external text file. This file could then be referenced from different the .fsf file.
Each time I want to include or exclude a new file extension, I have to update all my .fsf profiles, this is boring and error prone.

I received an update notice in my VV app, wo which I assumed was an update to 2.5. So I have installed the 2.5 update at which time I am dropped on an evaluation copy? Then to top it all off, to roll back to the old I lose all of my scripts?

There has to be some level responsibility on the part of TGRMN. This is unacceptable, and is far from an acceptable business practice, intentional or not.

Hello Xavier,

When you check for upgrades from version 2.0 you will visit be directed to this page:
http://www.tgrmn.com/web/forum/viewtopict2821.htm
where is specified that version 2.5 is not a free upgrade.

Sorry to hear that you upgraded without wanting to, you can now revert to version 2.5, you will not lose any script.

thanks

We were promised a "working" version of 2.0 - after all 2015 is fairly shocking - we've had to drop down to 2014 on all sites. The new version never materialised though.

See my previous posts if you are looking for reminders about the problems we had.

I haven't been on here much as we are moving to Microsoft's Data Protection Manager where we can, but we still have some sites that are struggling under 2014 - we want a working version of 2015.
