I am building up a large number of files in my documents and settings\local settings\temp folder. They have file names like ~vvA2.tmp. Are these from VV Pro? If so, can they be deleted automatically? manually?

Thanks.

Hello,

Yes, these are from ViceVersa but should not be there.

Could you please send a list of them using the command:
dir *.tmp

Would be good to have a list for both directories.

thanks

Thanks. Here is the list of files in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp

You mentioned "both directories" but I only know of one that contanins files like this.

Volume in drive C has no label.

Thanks, can you please check/post the content of some of the files (or send them to support@tgrmn.com), are these partial copies of the profile log file ?
thanks

Unfortunately, I did a general disk cleanup and all these files got erased. I do note that no new ones have been created. Perhaps it was a temporary problem that hs corrected itself. Thank you for your help thus far.

I'm having this same issue. Almost filled a C drive on one of our servers. There were 17GB of tmp files, each file about 28MB. All the files are text files containing info on the automated vice versa synchronization. (we use VVEngine). I deleted the files but new ones continue to be created.

I see this in the VVPro 2.5 release notes.
Fixed problem with .tmp files accumulating in the temp folder if two or more ViceVersa profiles share the same log file.

But I don have multiple profiles sharing a log.

What can I do about this?

The same issue could be caused by a hanging ViceVersa process which has a lock on the log file. (check if that is the case on your server) I think most probably the new version will fix the issue you are seeing. thanks

A couple of servers had the extra viceversa.exe running. I've killed those and will see how this holds. Thank you.

That did not help. I continue to get 28MB files created and not going away on their own.

Maybe some VV processes still running? If positive I wonder what is causing that. Did you try version 2.5 ?
thanks

I haven't yet tried 2.5 because of our company change management requirements. It will take a few days before I can do any software installation on this production system. I do see something that "might" be the cause, maybe you can verify for me....

My setup is 4 profiles:

Profile 1 is setup as "Monitor Source and Run When File Changes Are Detected " and when complete, runs Profile 2...
Profile 2, when complete, runs Profile 3...
Profile 3, when complete, runs Profile 4

I saw a few minutes ago, Profile 1 and 3 both running (and two viceversa.exe processes). I think that while it was going through each profile, something new arrived and Profile 1 kicked off again. But once done, both viceversa.exe processes were gone, so nothing was hung.

I just upgraded and should know the results in a couple of days. I found that the codes I have for 2.0 will not apply to 2.5 and that I would need to buy this upgrade.

If this is a bug in 2.0, will it be resolved in 2.0? I don't need the features of 2.5, I only need a fixed 2.0 at this point so I wouldn't be looking to make an additional purchase at this time.

Do the tmp files get created anytime ViceVersa does a scheduled check? (VVEngine).

or, do the tmp files only get created when VV actually has files to backup/replicate/synch/etc?

It appears that 2.5 is working as I would expect, provided VV creates tmp files anytime it scans, not only when there are actual files to move.

Hello ,

These temp files should be part of the log. They are used by VV when truncating the profile logs. Try opening them with NotePad to verify.
Another possible solution in version 2.0 should be to set VV to never truncate the log files, in the profile settings -> execution.

thanks
