|
|
I use several machines (home pc, laptop, work pc). Currently I use VV Pro to sync my home desktop files with copies on a usb key. VVP handles this fine because the USB key always gets the same drive letter when mounted on the home pc. At work or on when travelling with the laptop, I update these files directly on the usb key and resync with the home pc when I am back home. However, I would prefer (and some applications demand it) to copy the files from the usb key to the laptop or work pc (using VVPro installled on those machines), work on the files and then copy the changed files back to the USB key (using VVPro) and then resync from the USB key at home as before. The problem is that on the lapop and work pc, the usb key will be assigned different drive letters. Is there any way of setting up VVPro profiles to use some other method of identifying removeable drives other than by drive letter? I think I have seen other backup devices identifying a key by serial number or volume label. Can this be done in VVPro |

Hello, it can't be done in ViceVersa PRO, sorry, but you should be able to instruct Windows to always assign the same drive letter to the drive. _________________ --

You can now do this using folder variables (or variable macros) as follows:
<label:XXXXXXXX> It expands to the drive letter assigned to the drive with label XXXXXXXX. For example, <label:My-Usb-Drive>:\FolderA\ expands to S:\FolderA\ if the drive letter assigned to the drive with label 'My-Usb-Drive' is 'S'.
Please note: this variable can't be used with the tracking database or the synchronization method.
<serial:XXXXXXXX> It expands to the drive letter assigned to the drive with serial XXXXXXXX. For example, <serial:A2FF003E>:\FolderA\ expands to X:\FolderA\ if the drive letter assigned to the drive with serial number 'A2FF003E' is 'X'.
Please note: this variable can't be used with the tracking database or the synchronization method.
