|
|
Hi.
I recently added a new hard drive for backing up and started by copying and pasting some directories from the source drive to the new drive.
Since then i have updated only the new/target drive files and seeing that this was going to become a problem if i continued this way, i decided to look for & found a Sync software (vice-versa).
Keeping in mind that i already have newer files added to the target drive,
what is the best method of creating a mirror of the target-source-target without losing the updated files in the target drive?
I started to do a syncronization but then thought that this could delete all the files in the source drive that are not found in the target (since i only copied some files manually to begin with). from what i've read
"* All deleted files/folders in Source are deleted from Target
* All deleted files/folders in Target are deleted from Source".
If that is the case then will it in fact delete the difference between source & target?
Hope that makes sense.
Basically:
target has newer versions of the same directories in source but about 50% of files in source have not been copied to the target yet. I want to consolidate without losing the newest files in the target and without deleting the 50% of files not yet copied to the target from the source.
There are thousands of files to mirror so it needs to be done automatically.
Cheers,
Danny. |

Synchronization is the right method for this. ViceVersa will only delete files if they were there before, and have been deleted. In your case, the first time you run ViceVersa, the files will be added to the other side.
To avoid any problem, compare source and target and review the results in the comparison window. Please click on Preview and carefully review what ViceVersa plans to do. _________________ --

Thanks for quick response.
I restarted the sync and it couldn't complete the process because for some reason the source drive run out of space. Started with 15gb and after 1minute of syncronization it was warning of low disc space. Now down to 70kb. Is it a setting or is there a temporary file storing what is being copied? ...or whatever else ...it doesn't seem to have duplicated any files so not sure what has taken up all that space.
Please help! |

No need for your help. i figured it out.
Because i only copied 2 major directories from the C drive and pasted into the new E drive, i didn't even think to replicate the folder path. What happened when i tried to sync the two drives is that it started to copy the E drive files to a new location on the C drive ...Of course!!!
Sorry if this was any trouble to you.
I figured i should post this anyhow in case there are any other numskulls out there with the same problem as me.
