I recently purchased two identical 500gb laptop hard drives. I then cloned both drives from the 300gb drive in my laptop. After installing one of the new drives in the laptop, I placed the second drive in an external USB enclosure.

I am now using ViceVersa Pro 2 to keep the two 500gb drives in sync by backing up the the drive in the laptop (Source) to the external drive (Target). My assumption is that I can use the external drive as a hot replacement to the laptop drive. That way, if the drive in the laptop fails I can simply replace it with the one in the external enclosure. Other than having to redo any work that I had done since my last ViceVersa backup (which I run daily), I will then be back in operation with minimal effort--or at least that's the plan.

Since I'm not entirely certain that what I'm trying to do will actually work, however, I need to ask you if:

1. ViceVersa will actually maintain the Target drive as an identical copy of the Source drive.

2. Any of the profile settings need to be set to certain values to make sure that happens.

Thanks for your help!

Hello

it should work, but I never tried this... make sure you are using VSS for the source - http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item33.htm - and that you are copying every file. You can try to boot from the external drive (can you?) to check if it works.

thanks
