I would like to use ViceVersa for backup. For instance I would like to
place a copy of the folder E:\folder_1 onto the other server under
F:\folder_1.

I have a number of folders placed into the folder_1 on a number of levels.

One of the folders has a very long path > 260 characters in the path -
the string E:\ folder_1\folder_2\. . . \folder_x consists of more then 260
characters.

On building the list of folders and files ViceVersa shows me the error message, stating the described long- name folder can not be opened.

All is running on NTFS / Windows 2003 SR2 server.

What can I do in the situation?

Regards

I have a similar problem. I am trying to copy files from one server to another. All files copy over fine except for those with a file name longer than 256 characters.

The solution above does not work for me.

I get the following error.

2009-04-29 07:54:54 : [ERROR] Target: folder "\\?\\Umfserv1\........." not found. The system cannot find the path specified.
2009-04-29 14:46:11 : Exit Code: 14. Target folder not found. [ERROR]

I have also tried \\?\Umfserv1\............ and \\?\\\Umfserv1\........ but I get the same error.

Both servers reside in the same domain.

Any ideas?

Server 1 is a 2003 Server R2 sp2 and server 2 is a 2008 Server sp1

Hi, when working with UNC paths use \\?\UNC\ , e.g. \\?\UNC\Umfserv1\.........
