i have experienced problems when comparing files between my computer and a network hard-disk for back-up. VVPro keeps deleting and adding a group of files every time, although they are the same in my computer and in the NAS. It seem to be files with foreign characters in the name, but some of the files with same characteristics do not suffer the same. All the attributes are the same. So what's the reason for doing the same job over and over? Also, there a .iso file (3GB) that's also suffering the same thing, causing the back-up to last a VERY long time.

Hello

check the file timestamps and sizes in the ViceVersa comparison window, do they match?

I altered the names of the files and now it's working, except for the .iso file, which, even after being transferred manually, still has a different timestamp. When I use the VVPro to back-up my files to a USB disk there's no error comparing the same files.

If even after transferring using Windows Explorer the file has a different time stamp, that could be a problem with the NAS... what type/brand is the NAS? thanks

It's a Samsung HD installed on a D-Link DNS-323 enclosure.

But it's just one specific file. There are other .iso files in my system that are compared without problems.

Usually I have this kind of problems when I use CRC enabled, which I strongly recommend, and there is some problem:
1) The source file is corrupt, causing different CRC calculations on source and target. This can be tested creating an md5sum on each file and comparing it.

2) Once, I had the same problem with faulty RAM memory on the source computer (but I believe, if there is some problem on the NAS, it would be the same), producing "different target files".

Anyway, I would suggest:
1) Always use CRC
2) In situations like these, check source and target files for integrity, using, for instance, md5summer,

note:
In the case of the 3GB file (or >2GB), if the NAS is formatted with a filesystem that does not support files greater than 2GB, the end result would be as told in 1).
