|
|
Hi,
My scenario:
I have an HD with 4 partitions: C,D,E,F.
I would like to CLONE (mirror) this entire HD (all partitions) to an external HD (e-sata), so when I go home every day, I can carry with me the "same" HD I have in my office PC. So if my office PC's HD fails (or something like that), can I "replace" the old HD by this CLONE, then BOOT the PC and start to work with no problems?
Other question: Can VV copy locked database files (postgresql)?
Regards,
Christian. |

Hello
you can mirror all the files of a partition, but the mirror is not bootable. In case of a complete failure, the OS needs to be re-installed and then files that are needed can be restored from the mirror. thanks _________________ --

Hi,
Thank you for fast response.
Let's say I clone this HD (C,D,E,F) by using Symantec Ghost software.
So the clone HD now is totally bootable and it's a perfect image from first one.
After this point, can I use VV to mirroring the first one HD to the clone? Including new software instalations (windows register, etc...)?
And you didn't say nothing about the other question:
- Can VV copy locked database files (postgresql)? I mean, like a hot-backup?
- Does VV lock files while mirroring them?
Regards,
Christian.
PS: please forgive my poor english. |

Yes, that is possible. You must use VSS.

Yes, using VSS, please see http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item33.htm

Yes, but when using VSS the files are locked in the shadow copy so do not impact any other program,
