|
|
Hi,
I am wondering if VV can handle this problem. A few months ago I a new larger hard disk copy using Acronis. Acronis dated all my cloned document files in my DOCS directory with the date of the restoration, not the date of creation. (I have since discovered that there is a very esoteric option in Acronis that you have to uncheck to prevent changing file dates during restore.)
I am wondering if I can configure VV to synchronize with a similar DOCS directory on another system that contains the original file dates and to put the old dates onto the documents in the larger hard drive. The larger drive now contains quite a few new files noit present in the old directory and these would have to be preserved.
Thanks for any tips you can suggest. |

Hello
I think it could be done by comparing the drives and then copying only the files with a different creation date... but I am not sure I understood the problem exactly.

OK, let me try to explain it better. I upgraded the hard drive in my laptop, but when I cloned the old drive, the Acronis software changed the all original file creation dates/times (which span back more than 10 years) to the date/time the clone was done. So now all the older files in the new cloned DOCS directory have the same date, which is incorrect.
I erased the old hard drive after the clone was made to use it as a spare backup drive for the laptop. However, there is another backup of the original DOCS directory on my server (but it is missing all the new files created since the clone was made.) So I am wondering if I can network the server to the laptop and get ViceVersa to change the (incorrect) file dates on the laptop to match the (correct) file dates on the server for all files it finds with identical names and sizes. I'd have to make sure that ViceVersa does not do anything to any new files it finds on the laptop that don't exist on the server.
Hope this does a better job of describing the problem, and thanks for your help.

You are quite right. They are the dates/times that normally display when I use Windows Explorer |

Hello
ViceVersa can compare your DOCS directory on your cloned drive with the DOCS directory on the server. It will then show you which files have the same name but a different modified time stamp (not created) and which files do not have a corresponding file on the server. You could then select the files you wish to copy from the server to the laptop.

|
|
Hello.
I am trying to find out the original file created date of a file that is not a document, not a picture, not a video.
I tried FileDateCorrector , but it shows "no data".
Is it possible to solve this somehow and get the original file created date? or at least user who created the file?
I have received the file as an e-mail attachment. |
