I searched on the forum and didn't see anything that helped me, so I thought I would ask here.

I have a laptop that will have 20 folders that I want to be able to add, update, and delete files from, that I want to sync with the small Flash drive.

This flash drive is then taken to work, and I add,update, and delete files from it, but I am not allowed to install software on my work computer, so they just get changed. There would be no VV logging of these changes.

Now I go back home, and I want any files that were added, changed, or deleted from the flash drive to now be reflected on my laptop. I could this immediately after getting home, so I wouldn't expect there to be files that would need bidirectional sync'ing though I guess it would be possible in some scenarios.

Can you tell me if VV would work for me, and can you tell me which version I would need? I am using XP Pro at the office, and XP Home on my home laptop.

Thanks

Hello

The best option is the PRO version. You could install VV PRO at home and then put the file ViceVersa.exe on the flash drive to sync at work and run VV from the flash drive.

thanks

This is similar to what I need to do. The answer, however, suggests that VV must be run twice — once from the flash-drive between it and the work computer, and then again after plugging it into the home computer, after which, both computers will then be synchronized.

Is this correct?

If so, does VV have to be run from the flash drive each time — i.e. when synchronizing with my home PC and also when synchronizing with my work PC; — or, does it only need to be run from the flash drive when synchronizing it with my work PC?

The best setup would be to install VV on both computers and then run each vs. the flash drive.

thanks

I presume that requires two licenses. Regardless of that, however, as mentioned by the original poster, "This flash drive is then taken to work, and I add, update, and delete files from it, but I am not allowed to install software on my work computer, so they just get changed. There would be no VV logging of these changes."

So, can you answer my question taking that into consideration?

Also, will the following procedure work?:

1) Run VV from my home PC against the flash drive that contains the latest changes from my work PC — i.e. to do the initial compare and create the initial logging data on my home PC; and, then therafter...

2) copy the flash drive to my work PC;

3) make whatever changes on my work PC that I need to make, including adding and deleting files;

4) copy everything back to the flash drive from my work PC;

5) insert the flash drive into my home PC and re-sync between my home PC and flash drive;

6) the next day, and every day thereafter, repeat steps 2 through 5.

In that case, you can run ViceVersa PRO from the flash drive. Just put the file ViceVersa.exe on the flash drive and run it from there.

Yes, that is the correct procedure. Use the synchronization method, two different profiles (one for each computer) and a two separate tracking databases (one for each computer)
