Hi Support,

I am currently trialling {and loving} your Pro product in a home network environment, with the plan essentially being to mirror what Microsoft WHS does.

Given that it is in the home network, there are plenty of media files floating around, both MP3 and FLAC.

I would like to use the compression options, however, I would like to know first whether the compression that ViceVersa uses is lossy or lossless.

I may well have just embarrased myself with that question, as perhaps backup software compression doesn't work the same way as say music file compression. I have tried using my friend google, however, the key words bring up ridiculous amounts of non-related hits, and so I come to you guys for words of wisdom.

Cheers,

Darren

Hello

Thank you for evaluating ViceVersa.

ViceVersa compression is 100% lossless. Specifically, it uses the GZIP format: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gzip

When a compressed file is decompressed, it is recreated to be exactly the same as the original file, no data loss.

thanks!

Hi TGRMN-Team,

is an optional higher compression ratio planned? Maybe by implementation of ZStandard?

At the moment we do not have that in our plan, sorry.
