I can't seem to get ViceVersa to backup my ACT 2009 *.adf or *.alf files (only on my Desktop computer - the laptop works fine.). First, I reviewed my settings - it still didn't work. Then, I searched the knowledgebase - I have everything selected correctly - it still doesn't work.
I am running XP pro sp3. Your software works almost flawlessly on my multiple scheduled backups and syncs. But, I just can't figure this one out.
The error I receive is "[Can not open "C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\My Documents\ACT\ACT for Windows 11\Databases\{file name}.ADF". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.] Error.
One of my many backups and syncs (and I clearly know the difference between the 2) is that I sync many files from my desktop to my laptop. I backup files and directories to my network drive or USB hdds. (ACT files sync 2 ways - 1. automatic network sync or 2. manual sync inside of ACT. Both use their remote database RDB process - the only way to correctly sync information inside ACT).
This backup (backing up files to my network drive or USB hdds) problem occurs on my Desktop, but doesn't occur on my laptop (the files backup). The "only" difference (I can figure out) between my desktop and laptop is that I am running the ACT network sync service on my desktop. Could that be causing the problem? If so, wouldn't VSS resolve that?
Yes, I have VSS selected in the preferences. I've made many modifications to the preference settings - with no change in my results.
I hope I gave you enough information. Please reply. Please help.

Hello

Maybe the Volume Shadow Copy creation is failing, check the profile log (profile settings->execution to set a log if not already done) or the output window. Let us know.

thanks

Yes, the Volume Shadow Copy is failing. Below is 1 of the 4 files that create the error (taken from the log).

: [Volume Shadow Copy creation failed for C:. The system cannot find the file specified.] Error.
2009-02-11 08:06:22 : Copying file C:\Documents and Settings\user_name"\My Documents\ACT\ACT for Windows 11\Databases\file_name.ADF <to> W:\Desktop Backup\Documents and Settings\user_name\My Documents\ACT\ACT for Windows 11\Databases\file_name.ADF (93.13MB) [Can not open "C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\My Documents\ACT\ACT for Windows 11\Databases\file_name.ADF". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.] [ERROR].

... after it lists all 4 errors ...

2009-02-11 08:06:23 : -- Errors (Adding) - Source: 0 (0) - Target: 4 (157.44MB) [ERROR]

... then more information ...

2009-02-11 08:06:24 : Exit Code: 3. Execution completed with file copy/delete errors. [ERROR]

That's it.
Thanks for the quick reply.
