My envrionment is a Desk Top, Laptop and exchange server (enterprise)

So, the "Mailbox.pst" file is tieds to the exchange server real-time (more or less) so this is not the issue.

I have other .pst files that are "private" (not attached to the enterprise server) and I want to keep these in sync. I plan only to use the desk-top or laptop active only one at a time.

I also use rules to copy messages from the primary into "private.pst" files

Also, i would think it makes sense not to try to "Sync" the primary .PST file that is attached to Exchange.

So my question are:

1) If both systems have outlook open does it make sense to use Shadow copy to move the file to the other device?
2) If I use shadow copy method, do I need to have a copy of VV pm each machine (Push Mode)?
3) Don't use shadow copy (only sync when both outlook's are idle?)

Outlook seems to grab hold tightly on any private .pst file, is there a method for "un Locking" a private .pst file (don't use shadow copy) and kicking off a sync event (every hour?)

4) when i sync, is there a method if keeping older files around in re-clamable file structure for recovery?

It is not possible to copy the PST file to a machine if that machine has outlook open. You can copy from a machine that has outlook open to a machine that has not outlook open, but not to a machine that has outlook open.

To copy the PST file while in use, yes

Would need to close outlook for that...

Yes, use the file archiving feature in ViceVersa PRO.

thanks

Thanks for the reply.

Can VV look at file state on the source and target so when both are "Closed" a sync event can be kicked off?

Another option would be to have VV check the target state for "closed" and use "Shadow copy" on the source?

Please advise.

Thanks.

I may not have been clear, Can VV check to see when Outlook is closed then start? or run some background rule script to check the state of outlook?
